Names of God: Jehovah-Rapha

In the Old Testament times, a name was not only identification, but an identity as well. Many times a special meaning was attached to the name. Throughout Scripture God reveals Himself to us through His names. When we study these names that He reveals to us in the Bible, we will better understand who God really is. The meanings behind God’s names reveals His central personality. If you get this …You will never question whether or not it is God’s will regarding:
  • Healing
  • Provision
  • Peace
  • Righteousness, etc.

When your kids wake-up in the middle of the night sick He has a name for that – Jehova-Rapha, the Lord that heals.

You may go to the hospital but He is the doctor, He is the great physician.  When I call on Jehova-Rapha healing takes place.

He can make my bitter experiences sweet. He can make my broken heart whole. He can make my sick body well.

Because He is Jehova-Rapha he can heal physically, spiritually and emotionally. Are you broken or sick … call on Jehova-Rapha.

Bring It On!

A TV program on the History Channel featured the world’s most extreme airports. The one that caught my attention is no longer open, Hong Kong’s Kai Tak Airport, and it was definitely a thrill ride for passengers and surely a challenge for pilots. If you came in from one direction, you had to fly over skyscrapers and then hope the plane stopped before it plunged into the sea. If you came in the other way, it seemed as if you were going to smack into a mountain.

I found it surprising that a pilot who used to take planeloads of people into Kai Tak said, “I miss flying into that airport.” But I think I know what he meant. As a pilot, he relished the challenge. He had a confidence based on his ability and his reliance on those who guided him into the airport from the Tower.

In life – too often, we run from challenges. Yet the people we love to read about in the Bible are impressive because they battled challenges. Consider Paul. With the confidence of God’s help, he faced troubles head-on—and conquered them. Christ’s promise to Paul and to us is: “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness” (2 Cor. 12:9).

Like Paul’s example, in the confidence of God’s care we can say to the next challenge: Bring it on!

Growing People = 3 Services

As God continues to bless us and Life Church continues to grow, we are expanding our services to be able to reach more people.  Our vision has always been to grow people. As we concentrate on people, we notice that they begin growing in their relationship with God, their marriages become closer, their families are strengthened and they find their place to serve in ministry.  As we concentrate on loving people they become healthy. The byproduct of a healthy church full of growing people becomes a growing church.
Over the last several months our two services have both been near capacity, and our desire is to see other families begin growing and flourishing just like you have. In order to make that happen we are going to begin a third Sunday service.  Our new service times are 8:30, 10:00, and 11:30.
Our uniqueness in each service will continue to be our ability to be tightly connected with each other. To make the most of our intermission time to catch up with friends and meet new ones.  As the pastor of an amazing church, I love the fact that I can hug and shake hands with just about everybody each service! One thing we never want to loose is our desire to be tightly connected with our relationships and constantly open to making new friends.
As we move to Three Services, we want to challenge you to find a place to serve.  We can’t effectively serve others in three services without your involvement and commitment to service. From once a week to once a month – we need you! You can complete this quick form to sign up to volunteer!

Names of God: Jehova Jireh

In the Old Testament times, a name was not only identification, but an identity as well. Many times a special meaning was attached to the name. Throughout Scripture God reveals Himself to us through His names. When we study these names that He reveals to us in the Bible, we will better understand who God really is. The meanings behind God’s names reveals His central personality. If you get this …You will never question whether or not it is God’s will regarding:
  • Healing
  • Provision
  • Peace
  • Righteousness, etc.

God was first named Jehovah-Jireh (the Lord will provide) on Mount Moriah after Abraham had bound his son Isaac up as an offering and God intervened and provided a ram to take the place as a burnt offering. Jehova-Jireh, the Lord will provide.  When I understand that I can rest knowing He is my sufficiency.  He is the final cause of what you get, when you get it, and how you get it.

God is our source and my job is my resource. Most of us get those confused way to often.

When I understand that He is Jehova-Jireh and my resource runs out, than my Source will find me another resource.

He is Jehovah-Jireh.

Names of God: El-Elyon

In the Old Testament times, a name was not only identification, but an identity as well. Many times a special meaning was attached to the name. Throughout Scripture God reveals Himself to us through His names. When we study these names that He reveals to us in the Bible, we will better understand who God really is. • Healing

  • Peace
  • Righteousness, etc.

El-Elyon (Ēl ʿElyōn) – the most high God.

He is the first cause of everything. When it seems like everything is out of control, God is still in control. He is the processor of the Heaven and the Earth.  He is the every lasting God.  The great God.  Merciful God.  Faithful God.  Mighty God.  He is truth, justice, righteousness, and Perfection.

He is El-Elyon – the most high God, creater of the Heavens and the Earth.

With somebody like that, you are in Good hands.

Homework: Next time you doubt your capabilities, go have a talk with El-Elyon, the most high God.

Back 2 School Bash Reflections

It’s been nearly 48 hours since that 2PM start time for the Midlothian Back 2 School Bash and I’m still all giddy like a kid in a candy store with a $100 bill. We wanted to share a message of Hope, Help and God’s Love to our community – and I think they heard it … loud and clear. We were able to connect with over 2,000 people who attended the Back 2 School Bash! Here are some of my reflections from the day:

RAIN, RAIN, GO AWAY! That’s not what most people in Texas were hoping for, but when I woke up Saturday morning and it was raining I had flashbacks of last year’s Mud Fest and that was the very one thing I had hoped not to repeat. Let’s just say God had an earful from me that morning, I prayed for the rain to stop over Midlothian and the more I prayed, the more the drizzle continued. It rained incessantly right up to our 2PM start time and within 10 minutes the ground was completely dry, the crowd came out, the cloud cover stayed over us all day, a nice north breeze was blowing and it never got above 84*. I think the whole time I was fretting, God was smiling saying, “Jason, I got this. Trust me.”  What a beautiful day we had in Midlothian for the Back 2 School Bash, I think God just wanted to show off for us!

VOLUNTEER REVOLUTION! One of my favorite things to see at our events are our volunteers. They were there in shifts from 8am until midnight – many there the entire time. There is absolutely no way we could have had the success we had without the hundreds of volunteers that gave their most expensive asset … their time. It humbled me to see families volunteering together, teenagers serving, kids helping kids. Everywhere I looked a sea of Panther Blue Volunteer Shirts represented people that smiled and helped and loved people. Our coordinating team was fabulous and you guys made me the proudest pastor in the world!

COMMUNITY SUPPORT! What made the Back 2 School Bash impressive to our guests who attended was the community support.  Our goal was to provide an avenue for our community to donate school supplies to Manna House who  will do the distribution. Sissy Franklin and her team from Manna House were thrilled at the truck loads of school supplies and cash donations given to make this the best start to a school year ever. It was spectacular to see Midlothian’s Top Hair Stylists all working side by side for six hours cutting children’s hair. Hope Clinic came our with 500 immunizations and with the volunteer support of nurses from all over Ellis County their helped provide immunizations for kids going back to school. The Back 2 School Bash was successful because of our community support!

CORPORATE DONORS! When large national corporations and local business owners heard what we were doing, they couldn’t let an opportunity like this go by without investing. Thousands of dollars were given by businesses and thousands more were represented in the prizes and give-a-ways. We value our corporate donors and than you from the bottom of our hearts for investing in peoples lives!

CITY OF MIDLOTHIAN & MIDLOTHIAN ISD! What a fantastic city we live and what a great school district we have.  We appreciate the open door MISD gave us for the use of the parking lot and field at the Midlothian Multi-Use Stadium. And we thank Mayor Boyce Whatley for his support both prior to and out at the Back 2 School Bash. The Parks & Recreation Department and Jim Berman ended a great day with their Movie in the Park. Thank you guys for your investment in Midlothian!

100 HOURS OF PRAYER! God had a huge part in this. In February God birthed the idea to provide help to students going back to school and God continued to open doors as we dreamed and walked in faith. The last 7 days prior to the Back 2 School Bash we challenged our church to invest 100 hours of prayer on top of the hours of prayer that had lead up to this event. We give  God the glory for the success the Back 2 School Bash was and the lives that were impacted.

Names of God: El-Shaddai

In the Old Testament times, a name was not only identification, but an identity as well. Many times a special meaning was attached to the name. Throughout Scripture God reveals Himself to us through His names. When we study these names that He reveals to us in the Bible, we will better understand who God really is. The meanings behind God’s names reveals His central personality. If you get this …You will never question whether or not it is God’s will regarding:
  • Healing
  • Provision
  • Peace
  • Righteousness, etc.

Over the next few weeks we will study the names of God. My challenge to you is to use God’s names in the specific areas of your life while you pray.

El-Shaddai  [shah-dahy] All-Sufficient One, Lord God Almighty of blessings.

This word appears 7 times in the Old Testament. It first appears in Genesis 17:1, “When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am El-Shaddai—`God Almighty.’

The word El is another name that is translated as “God”. It is used in conjunction with other words to depict God’s character. Shaddai is derived from another word which means breast, which implies that Shaddai is one who nourishes, satisfies, and supplies His people with all their needs as a mother would her child.

When you understand his name – El-Shaddai – The Lord Almighty – it is God who is powerful enough to bless us with and provide for every need in abundance. He is all sufficient!

Homework: How will you use the name of El-Shaddai in prayer?

100 HOURS OF PRAYER

LET’S LOG IN 100 HOURS OF PRAYER TOGETHER THIS WEEK!

For months our staff and event planning team has been praying for our Back 2 School Bash – but we don’t want to stop there – will you join us in logging in 100+ hours of prayer this week?  If you are logging in an hour of prayer this week, please email us at info@lifeunusual.com so we can stay in touch.

Imagine the prayers that will be prayed this week? Can you imagine the throne room of God filled with over 100 hours of concentrated prayer – not about our needs, but about life transformation that will occur Saturday at the Back 2 School Bash. You can help us by praying for 1 hour this week!
Maybe you’re thinking, what do I pray about for an entire hour? Here is a list to help you start with:

  • Great weather
  • Timely set up with all of our vendors and deliveries to arrive in time
  • Volunteers full of excitment serving in love
  • Volunteers needed for licensed positions: stylists and nurses
  • Funding through corporate donations and personal giving to meet goal
  • Cooperation with key role players outside of Life Church
  • Marketing and event awarness to spread rapidly – the word to get out
  • Safety of our guests
  • School supplies to be donated in a grand proportion
  • Great connections and open doors to share God’s love with our guests

The Church Auditorium will be open from 9AM-4PM each day this week. We will have some of your favorite music to pray to playing as well as some prayer guides. You can pray at church, you can pray at home, you can walk the field at the Midlothian Multi-Purpose Stadium. You choose your hour and your location to pray!

Prayer is not weak. Prayer is not anemic. Prayer is powerful. It’s a nuclear weapon that disarms the enemy’s attack. Prayer acknolwdeges God’s control over nature, over circumstances and over people’s hearts.

If you are logging in an hour of prayer this week, please email us at info@lifeunusual.com and let us know. We would like to keep a log of our prayer warriors this week and stay in touch with you!

NEW SERIES: PRAYER

HOW DO YOU SEE PRAYER?

  • Some see it as asking for something that couldn’t possibly happen anyway.
  • Others see it as their personal vending machine: put in the right combination of currency, push the right buttons, and get what you want.
  • There are those who see prayer as a religious exercise.
  • And there are those who don’t think prayer is effective at all.

According to the Bible, we can be confident that our prayers will be answered. Jesus many times lets us know that it is faith and belief that are key to answered prayer. Look at these verses…

Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.”” (Mark 9:23)

So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Luke 11:9)

If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” (John 14:14)

If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.” (John 15:7)

Our prayers are more than wishes and hopes – but only if we pray with believing, faith-filled hearts. That is the kind of prayer that moves mountains. I’m excited about our series on Prayer. What we will learn, what we will apply and the hundreds of hours that will be going in to both private and corporate prayer.
